The Robber Hotzenplotz
- Vorstellung
A musical comedy in 8 scenes by Sebastian Schwab Libretto and song lyrics by Elena Tzavara, Anne X. Weber and Susanne Lütje, based on Otfried Preußler
Help, the coffee grinder’s gone! When Seppel and Kasperl find out that the sinister robber Hotzenplotz has robbed their beloved grandmother, they make up their minds straight away: they must get the coffee grinder back. The trembling policeman Dimpfelmoser is no help to them, so the two boys spontaneously set off on their own. But Hotzenplotz isn’t going to make it quite that easy for them – their plan to outwit the robber backfires, they are taken captive and, to make matters worse, separated. Kasperl is sold off to the nasty wizard Zwackelmann, for whom he has to peel vast quantities of potatoes. But Zwackelmann’s realm holds more than just potato peelings in store; it has plenty of other surprises, and with the help of an enchanted fairy, Kasperl finally finds the means to bring about a happy ending …
Sebastian Schwab’s enchanting family opera, based on Otfried Preußler’s classic children’s book, has been taking the hearts of children and adults alike by storm since its premiere in 2023. The directing team led by Juana Inés Cano Restrepo brings this enchanting fairy tale to the MiR’s Main Theatre in an imaginatively staged production – for Hotzenplotz fans of all ages and anyone who wants to become one.
