Season 26.27

Welcome to the MiR!

With a new artistic leadership team, we are embarking on a new season with great enthusiasm – our first at the MiR, in Gelsenkirchen and across the Ruhr region. Yes, MiR – Musiktheater im Revier – is the name of this fantastic building. The people of Gelsenkirchen have known it by no other name for years. And it is for them, above all, that the MiR is and should be there. For the local community. For those who come together here – from near and far. For music theatre and dance enthusiasts as well as the curious, for experts and amateurs, for the experienced and those just discovering the art forms, for older people, the young at heart and the very young. For those for whom the MiR is already a second living room, just as much as for those who, until now, didn’t even know we existed and that the MiR offers them a vast, unique space for experiences.

People need space. And they need to connect. With others, with themselves, with the unfamiliar. Only in this way can we define our positions; only in this way can we learn to understand ourselves and others. And only through this direct exchange can we build a society that sets out together on the path to the future.

To this end, we want to come together with you. We want to use music, dance and song to bring to life and share what moves us. We want to ask questions, give space to fears, offer resistance, but also – and very, very much so – marvel, laugh, celebrate, let ourselves be moved and inspired together with you.

Together with Muhammed Kaltuk, the new director of TanzGelsenkirchen, Nora Krahl as director of MiR.LAB, Chief Music Director Rasmus Baumann and many others, we have sought out themes and material that meet our – and, we hope, your – needs for exchange and connection.

On the following pages, you can read about what we have planned for you and for ourselves in the coming year. The result is a programme that encompasses everything from the great classics to hip-hop battles – all the things we wish to combine with theatre, dance and music and bring to life. There will be familiar elements and completely new ones, tried-and-tested formats and fresh experiments. It is important to us, wherever possible, to break down barriers and create access for curiosity, a playful spirit and open minds. With this in mind, we are now looking forward with excitement to our encounters with you as we embark on our first season at the MiR.

You, and everyone else, are most warmly welcome!

Wozzeck

An opera by Alban Berg

Realities

Dance evening: choreographies by Rachelle Anaïs Scott, Sharaf DarZaid and Kwame Osei
