In classic tales, the roles are clearly defined: Beauty and the Beast. Good and evil. But can the Beast also be beautiful, or the Beauty beastly? How are characters perceived – and is that a judgement for life? The internationally award-winning choreographers Alesandra Seutin and Joy Alpuerto Ritter explore new perspectives on familiar motifs from two different approaches, allowing us to experience the familiar from unfamiliar angles.

Alesandra Seutin was born in Zimbabwe and now divides her time between London and Brussels. She gained key inspiration whilst studying in London and in Senegal, where she trained with Germaine Acogny, the ‘mother of African contemporary dance’. Her creations are known for their powerful visual language and often reflect social, political and economic themes.

Joy Alpuerto Ritter is originally from the USA and grew up in Freiburg. Her choreographic style reflects the diverse influences she absorbed during her dance training: classical ballet and contemporary dance, traditional Filipino and Polynesian dance forms, elements of hip-hop and many others come together in her powerful works to form a fascinating whole.
