Almuth Herbst

The mezzo-soprano Almuth Herbst studied singing with Kammersänger Prof. Leisenheimer at the Cologne University of Music and with Kurt Moll. This was followed by national and international scholarships, a tour of the USA, radio productions with WDR, SWR, Radio 4 (NL), a teaching post at the University of Dortmund, and concert engagements with the WDR Radio Orchestra, the Baden-Baden Philharmonic, the Hagen Municipal Theatre Orchestra, the Nederlands Bach Ensemble and the Neue Philharmonie Westfalen. She made her debut at the Konzerthaus Dortmund with Brahms’s Alto Rhapsody and, under the baton of Kerry Woodward, performed Gustav Mahler’s ‘Kindertotenlieder’. Opera engagements have taken Almuth Herbst to the Ruhrtriennale, the Aalto Theatre in Essen, Dortmund Opera, Bonn Opera, the Grand Théâtre de la Ville de Luxembourg, Münster Municipal Theatre, Koblenz City Theatre, Hanover State Theatre and Hagen Municipal Theatre. In the Netherlands, she appeared as Zia Principessa (‘Suor Angelica’) and Dido (‘Dido and Aeneas’). In addition, guest engagements in 2015–16 saw her perform as Marthe (‘Faust’) at the Aalto Theatre in Essen and as Hansel (‘Hansel and Gretel’) at the Theatre in Dortmund. Almuth Herbst has been a member of the ensemble at the MiR since the 2009–10 season and is the winner of the 2016 Gelsenkirchen Theatre Prize.
