Yevhen Rakhmanin

The Ukrainian bass Yevhen Rakhmanin studied at the ‘Pyotr Tchaikovsky’ National Music Academy in Kyiv from 2013 to 2019. During his time as a student, he performed, amongst others, the roles of Figaro and Antonio in *Le nozze di Figaro* (Mozart), Count Azdrubale in *La pietra del paragone* (Rossini), Prince Gremin in Tchaikovsky’s *Eugene Onegin* and Sobakin in the opera *The Tsar’s Bride* (Rimsky-Korsakov). In 2019, he became a member of the Opera Academy at the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw, Poland, where Yevhen studied under Matthias Rexroth, Olha Pasichnyk and Eytan Pessen. In 2020, he was a scholarship holder of the Polish Ministry of Culture’s ‘Gaude Polonia’ programme and a finalist in the Cesti Competition. He attended masterclasses with, amongst others, Dmitry Vdovin, Rosetta Cucchi and Eleonora Pacetti. In the summer of 2018, he took on the roles of Masetto and the Commendatore in *Don Giovanni* (Mozart) as part of the ‘Music Breaks Down Walls’ project. He gained further musical experience at the “Comme il faut” Music Theatre in Kyiv and the Kyiv Operetta Theatre, and as a member of the choir at the Kyiv National Opera of Ukraine. As a chorister, he took part in the “Шляхи дружби – Wege der Freundschaft” project, featuring Riccardo Muti and John Malkovich, in Kyiv and Ravenna. Since 2016, he has been performing Ukrainian experimental operas with the ensemble “Nova Opera”, including at festivals such as the Rotterdam Opera Days 2018 and the Prototype Festival in New York. The ensemble has performed on stages including the Macedonian Opera and Ballet Theatre, the National Opera of Ukraine, the La Mamma Theatre in New York and many others.
