Ziling Xie

Dancer

Ziling Xie was born in Hunan, China, in 2001 and is a dancer and choreographer.

She began learning Latin American dances at an early age. At secondary school, she turned her attention to classical Chinese dance and folk dance. A chance encounter whilst at university led her to contemporary dance; she subsequently joined the Chinese Banshan Dance Company and began exploring cross-genre styles, including street dance.

Ziling has performed in works such as ‘NIX’ by Luc Jacob, ‘On The Up Grade’ and ‘Butterfly Island’ by the Ergao Dance Production Group, as well as in the Chinese versions of Ohad Naharin’s ‘-16’ and Alexander Ekman’s ‘Cacti’. She has also collaborated with various Chinese choreographers working in a range of styles. Furthermore, she appeared in the dance film “The Apple Doesn’t Fall…”, directed by Wei De’an and choreographed by Liu Shiyu, which won the Short Film Tiger Award and the KNF Award at the 55th Rotterdam International Film Festival. As a choreographer, Ziling created her own solo piece, ‘naught’.

Through her collaboration with numerous artists, she continues to gain creative experience, explore the possibilities of the body and places great emphasis on interdisciplinary fusion.

From the 26/27 season onwards, Ziling Xie will be a member of TanzGelsenkirchen at the MiR.
