Rosamond Thomas

Rosamond Thomas is a British mezzo-soprano. She made her debuts in 2024 at the Halle Opera House in the role of Nancy in Britten’s *Albert Herring*, at the Leipzig Opera as the Sandman in *Hansel and Gretel*, and at the Brandenburg Theatre as Flora in *La Traviata*, and in June 2023 she sang at the Hamburg State Opera in the world premiere of Sciarrino’s *Venere e Adone*, conducted by Kent Nagano and directed by Georges Delnon. Her roles to date include Carmen in Bizet’s *Carmen*, Dido in Purcell’s *Dido and Aeneas*, Cesare in Handel’s *Giulio Cesare*, L’Enfant in Ravel’s *L’Enfant et les sortilèges* and the Composer in Strauss’s *Ariadne auf Naxos* at the beautiful Schönbrunn Theatre in Vienna, Asteria in Gluck’s *La Corona* (Perchtoldsdorf Castle) and the Sorceress (Dido) at the 2019 Ryedale Festival. She sang in the chorus at the Glyndebourne Festival and on the 2022 tour. At the festival, she was also the understudy for the Second Maiden in *Le Nozze di Figaro*.

Rosamond recently sang the alto solos in Handel’s Messiah with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, conducted by Jeanette Sorrell, and she returned for Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Thomas Søndergård. As a concert singer, she has performed works including Copland’s *In the Beginning*, Bach’s *Christmas Oratorio*, Duruflé’s *Requiem*, Dvořák’s *Stabat Mater*, Verdi’s *Requiem* and Mozart’s *Mass in C minor*, the latter at Cadogan Hall, London.

Rosamond is an experienced lieder singer and has a particular passion for this genre. She sang Schumann’s *Liederkreis* Op. 39 at the Bösendorfer Salon in the Musikverein and a programme of lieder with texts exclusively by female poets at the Gesellschaft für Musiktheater in Vienna. In January 2024, she sang Mahler’s *Kindertotenlieder* and Schumann’s Op. 90 at the Schumannhaus in Leipzig. At the 2019 Ryedale Festival, she sang songs by Roxanna Panufnik in conversation with the composer. During her bachelor’s degree in London, she sang Ravel’s *Trois chansons de Stéphane Mallarmé* with orchestra at Duke’s Hall and Rachmaninov songs as part of the Rachmaninov Festival at Pushkin House. She has taken part in masterclasses with Helmut Deutsch, Christoph Pregardien (London Song Festival) and Justus Zeyen. Rosamond was a finalist in the 2024 German National Singing Competition, a semi-finalist in the International Singing Competition, Elizabeth Connell Prize, in 2024, and was awarded second prize at the 2022 Hurn Court Singing Competition.

Rosamond previously studied at the University of Music and Theatre in Leipzig, the Royal Academy of Music and the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
