Nora Krahl

Artistic Director of MiR.LAB and Director

The director, cellist and composer Nora Krahl is passionately committed to contemporary music and experimental digital forms of musical theatre. Having started out as a classical cellist, she studied musicology before turning her attention to contemporary music, improvisation and electronic composition, and performing in concerts around the world. Active in the performing arts since 2010, she has worked as a musician at the Schauspielhaus Köln, the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg and the Staatsoper Berlin. She has collaborated with Opera Lab Berlin and SHE SHE POP, and has been realising her own directing projects since 2016.

As a director, Nora Krahl is particularly interested in exploring boundaries, digital technologies and new forms of storytelling. Motion tracking and XR play a key role in this. She was a fellow of the XR-Unites Fellowship at HTW Berlin and at Dock11-digital Berlin. Her productions have taken her to the Deutsche Oper Berlin (world premiere of Sara Glojnarić’s chamber opera ‘KEIN MYTHOS’), the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin and the Galerie Depot in Istanbul (‘Gölge Kağıt’ for cello, paper, electronics and a performer), as well as to New York City (Columbia University). In 2016, her first music theatre production, “Persona non Grata”, which she directed herself, premiered in New York City. Nora has received numerous scholarships and residencies in Basel, Istanbul, New York City and California. She studied cello and musicology at the Folkwang University of the Arts and music theatre direction at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin.
