Michelle Yamamoto

Deputy Head / Company Manager

Michelle Yamamoto, who was born in Brazil, trained as a stage dancer at the Palucca University of Dance in Dresden. She gained her first experience in choreography whilst still a student and developed a broad interest in different dance styles and working methods.

From 2001 to 2006, she worked at various German theatres and opera houses, including the Semperoper Dresden, the Hanover State Opera, the Kiel Theatre and the Aalto Theatre in Essen. She also taught at the ballet school of the Kiel Theatre.

During her dancing career, Michelle Yamamoto collaborated with numerous renowned choreographers, including Christian Spuck, Ohad Naharin, Mario Schröder, Stephan Thoss and Patrick Delcroix. She also created her own choreographic works for, amongst others, the Palucca University of Dance in Dresden, the Kiel Ballet, the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre and the Aalto Ballet in Essen.

After ending her active stage career in 2015, Michelle Yamamoto moved into the organisational and managerial side of theatre operations and initially worked as an assistant to the ballet director at Ballett im Revier at the MiR. At the same time, she completed a degree in business administration, thereby combining her many years of artistic experience with sound management skills.

Since 2019, Michelle Yamamoto has been Company Manager of the MiR Dance Company, where she oversees the company’s organisational processes. From the 26/27 season onwards, she will hold the same position at TanzGelsenkirchen.
