Khanyiso Gwenxane

The tenor Khanyiso Gwenxane comes from South Africa. After finishing school, he toured the world with a South African adaptation of Mozart’s *The Magic Flute* – with this production, entitled *Impempe Yomlingo*, Khanyiso Gwenxane also appeared on stage in London’s West End in 2007 and 2008. From 2009, he studied singing, specialising in opera, at Tshwane University of Technology in Pretoria under Pierre du Toit. He completed his vocal training at the South African College of Music in Cape Town, graduating successfully in 2014. As part of a scholarship, he furthered his musical training at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. From 2016 to 2018, Khanyiso Gwenxane was a member of the Young Ensemble at the Semperoper Dresden. He made his operatic debut in 2016 as Ferrando in Mozart’s “Così fan tutte” at the Royal Opera in Stockholm. This was followed in 2017 by his role debut as Nemorino in Donizetti’s *L’elisir d’amore* at the New Generation Festival in Florence – he returned to the Semperoper in Dresden in 2023 to perform this role again. In 2018, he made his debut at the Staatstheater Braunschweig as Tito in Mozart’s *La clemenza di Tito* – he will be appearing in this role at the International Gluck Festival in 2024. At the Gluck Festival, he made his debut in 2022 as Admeto in Gluck’s *Alceste* at the Margravial Opera House in Bayreuth. In 2022, he made his US debut as Rossini’s Otello at the Philadelphia Opera, where he will also be a guest performer again in 2025. In 2023, he made his debut at the Staatstheater Darmstadt as Lenski in Tchaikovsky’s *Eugene Onegin*. He has been a member of the ensemble at the Musiktheater im Revier since the 2018–19 season.
