Kathi Maurer

Kathi Maurer, born in Munich, began her studies at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London before transferring to the Berlin University of the Arts, where she studied stage design under Achim Freyer.

As a costume designer, she has worked at numerous renowned theatres and festivals, including the Salzburg Festival, the Baden-Baden Easter Festival, the Perm Opera in Russia, the Opéra de Dijon, the Hamburg State Opera, the Cologne Opera, the Berlin opera houses and the Bregenz Festival, the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and the Ruhrtriennale. At the same time , she was responsible for numerous productions at German-speaking theatres (including in Munich, Basel, Zurich, Hamburg, Dresden, Leipzig and Frankfurt am Main).

She has enjoyed a long-standing collaboration with the director Philipp Stölzl. Together with him, she staged the German-language premiere of *Das Vermächtnis* at the Residenztheater in Munich, which was invited to the 2023 Berlin Theatertreffen; the world premiere of the play ‘James Brown trug Lockenwickler’ by Yasmina Reza, also at the Residenztheater; and, in 2024, ‘Liliom’ at the Burgtheater in Vienna.

She has been working with the theatre group Kommando Himmelfahrt since 2017.

She was awarded the Villa Serpentara scholarship by the Academy of Arts in Berlin and lives with her family in Berlin.
