Jörg Debbert

Head of the Sound Department

Jörg Debbert was born in Münster, where he also received his classical training on three different instruments, which spanned a total of 14 years. Whilst still at school, he set up his own recording studio and contributed to numerous recordings as a musician, arranger, producer and engineer. After completing his A-levels, he initially worked for two years at the historic Jovel Music Hall in the city. Here, he looked after, amongst others, Miles Davis and his band, and Maria João and Aki Takase during concerts. In the adjoining recording studio, he worked on productions by renowned artists such as the English band The Pretty Things and the German singer Udo Lindenberg. Following his community service, he spent several years abroad, a period marked in particular by his enrolment at the renowned Berklee College of Music (Boston, USA). Gigs as a sound engineer (including on tours with the bands Bon Jovi and The Rolling Stones) eventually took him all over Europe. From 1996 onwards, he refocused on studio work and was involved in a wide range of productions for the Bertelsmann Music Group, Schott Music & Media GmbH and EMI Electrola at Principal Studios (Senden), Dierks Studios (Pulheim), the ‘N’ Sound Studio (Cologne), as well as Konken Studios and Studio Funk (Hamburg), where he was involved in a wide range of productions for the Bertelsmann Music Group, Schott Music & Media GmbH and EMI Electrola. During this period, his own company mainly produced soundtracks for TV and cinema adverts for well-known brands, for which he was often responsible not only for the mixing but also for the composition and arrangement. He also received his first commissions from theatres in Münster, which eventually led to a permanent position at the end of 1999. At the start of the 2011–12 season, he moved to the Theater Trier as Head of the Sound Department, where, amongst other things, he set up and oversaw the successful musicals ‘West Side Story’ and ‘Evita’. Since August 2013, Jörg Debbert has held the same position at the Musiktheater im Revier.
