Egon Gerber
Dancer
Egon Gerber, born in Aksu, Kazakhstan, in 1995, discovered dance in his early teens. At the age of 13, he took up breaking – a style whose physical intensity and creative freedom have had a profound influence on his artistic identity. Through this early connection to hip-hop culture, he developed a strong body awareness and a lasting fascination with movement, which later inspired him to explore a wide range of dance styles.
Building on his foundation in breaking, Gerbre immersed himself in various street-style dance forms before his interest gradually shifted towards stage performance and contemporary dance. This artistic development ultimately led him to undertake professional training at the Higher Vocational School for Contemporary and Urban Stage Dance in Zurich, where he studied from 2017 to 2020 and graduated as a stage dancer. During this time, he deepened his understanding of choreographic processes, artistic research and performance creation.
Since 2023, Egon has been a member of the remi demi collective, where he continues to expand his versatility and develop a movement language that combines urban and contemporary practices. Since 2024, he has also been working as a rehearsal director for the MEK Company and is overseeing the touring productions of the piece ‘Same Love’.
Throughout his career, Gerber has collaborated with national and international choreographers and companies, including Muhammed Kaltuk, Jochen Heckmann, Victor Rottier, Ihsan Rustem, Luca Signoretti, Panorama Dance Theatre, Miller de Nobili and the MEK Company.
