Dorothee Schäfer
Sculptor & illustrator
Dorothee Schäfer was born in Berlin and grew up in Bochum. She completed an apprenticeship as a stonemason and sculptor in Munich after returning to the Ruhr region. During her ten-year residency with the Protestant parish of Bochum in Stahlhausen, she organised various exhibitions and festivals, including the Masala Art Festival and the bobiennale. In her artistic practice, Dorothee Schäfer focuses on sculpture and drawing. She is particularly interested in the human condition itself – strengths, weaknesses and how we interact with one another. She is increasingly working on collaborative artistic projects. Dorothee Schäfer’s works can be found in private collections and in public spaces. On the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of National Socialism in 2022, her monument to the anti-fascist resistance was unveiled in Bochum-Mitte.
