Apostolos Kanaris

Choir Singer

The Athens-born pianist and tenor Apostolos Kanaris began his musical training at the age of six. His path first took him to the Piraeus Conservatoire in Athens, where, whilst still a student, he began working early on as a piano accompanist for singers and choirs. In 1999, he continued his training in Germany and was accepted at the ‘Richard Strauss Conservatoire’ in Munich to study piano and singing as his two main subjects.

He successfully completed his piano studies in 2002, with a particular focus on chamber music. At the same time, he furthered his vocal training as a tenor under Nikolaus Hillebrand and finally completed his vocal studies in 2011 at the Athens Conservatoire.

A significant milestone in his career was his long-standing membership of the Bavarian Radio Choir between 2000 and 2012. During this time, he worked under the baton of world-renowned conductors such as Lorin Maazel, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Claudio Abbado, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Riccardo Muti and Mariss Jansons. Since 2012, Apostolos Kanaris has been a permanent member of the opera chorus at the Musiktheater im Revier (MiR).

Alongside his vocal work, he is a much sought-after piano accompanist and has already performed in this capacity at renowned venues such as the Gasteig in Munich, the Bonn Opera, the Musiktheater im Revier and the Museum of Art and Cultural History in Dortmund.
