Artist Talk

The MiR is one of eleven institutions selected nationwide for the ‘Art & AI’ funding programme run by the Federal Cultural Foundation. As part of this funding, MiR.LAB is developing a new interactive music theatre piece entitled ‘The System Cannot Fail’. The New York-based artist and media researcher Dr Ellen Pearlman forms the artistic team alongside LAB directors Nora Krahl and Barış Pekçağlıyan. Over a period of 2.5 years, they will explore how artificial intelligence influences memory, identity and creativity. The intensive working phase on the AI opera project begins with Dr Ellen Pearlman’s two-week residency in Gelsenkirchen. On 18 November, the team is hosting an artist talk to provide insights into their work at the intersection of perform-ce, technology and consciousness. They will discuss the opportunities and risks of artificial creativity, as well as the role of the audience in interactive AI performances.
