A new star in the galaxy

Hello Earthlings, welcome to Planet Neustern! We hope you had a pleasant journey through space and time and that you’ve landed safely – right on the Communication Crystal, the legendary centre of our planet. Well, at least it used to be. Unfortunately, the crystal is currently out of action – ‘broken’ is probably a more accurate description. It once brought love and harmony to this place. Ever since the crystal broke, there has been a radio silence amongst the inhabitants. Society has split into two camps: the so-called ‘Rats’ and the ‘Children’. They’re called that, but they look neither like rats nor like children. The Children are noble; they rule over the magnificent parts of Neustern. Rats are wretched; they live underground. But enough of the introduction: just come along on a little tour of this peculiar, beautiful planet. Perhaps you can help restore some of Neustern’s former splendour – and if we’re lucky, together we’ll get the crystal up and running again. ‘Neustern in the Gelekxie’ is an interactive musical theatre production set in the streets of Gelsenkirchen’s Neustadt district. The audience experiences the fantastical planet Neustern and becomes a witness to a galactic story. The musical theatre production was developed in five participatory workshops for Gelsenkirchen’s urban space by over 50 local residents since September 2024, under the direction of Dominik Hallerbach (MiR.LAB). On 16 and 17 May 2025, the production will have its world premiere on Josefstraße in the Neustadt district. Original music will be performed live by the Gelsenkirchen-based bands ‘Vitamin Dream’, ‘Nazband’ and ‘Die Langstrümpfe’. Admission is free. Numbered tickets are available online and at the box office. The event takes place partly outdoors and partly indoors. The audience moves between several stations. Seating is limited. The venue is only partially wheelchair-accessible. A wheelchair-accessible toilet is available. No cloakroom.
