We’re rolling out the blue carpet for you! To mark the new management’s first season opening, the MiR is celebrating the city, Gelsenkirchen Blue and itself with an extraordinary world premiere.
When the visionary architect Werner Ruhnau and the then largely unknown artist Yves Klein joined forces a good 70 years ago,
they didn’t just create the most beautiful theatre building in the Ruhr region. Through their art, the two were also united by a vision of an open and more sensitive society. A ‘School of Sensitivity’ was to be founded; the necessary applications were submitted, but the project was never realised.
Now, the musical theatre collective Kommando Himmelfahrt is bringing this once-envisaged utopia back to life and transposing it into the present day. Accompanied by a composition that flows through the entire theatre, the audience embarks on an extraordinary journey from the forecourt, through the foyers, into the depths of art. Along the way, they encounter
the founding fathers of the MiR, and experience drama, music and blue interventions. And the successful conclusion of the ‘School of Sensibility’ comes to a close at the Ball bleu with sparkling blue drinks. Whether wearing blue eyeshadow or blue jeans – join us in celebrating Gelsenkirchen and its MiR, and immerse yourself in Gelsenkirchen’s blue!
