Susanne Serfling

After training in classical ballet, the soprano Susanne Serfling studied singing at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin. Following her first permanent engagement at the Erfurt Theatre, she joined the ensemble of the Darmstadt State Theatre in 2005. Following leading roles such as Poppea and Iphigenia, she made a successful debut in the lyric-dramatic repertoire with the roles of Rachel in *La Juive*, Mimì in *La Bohème*, Sieglinde in *Die Walküre*, Cio-Cio San in *Madama Butterfly*, as well as in the title role of *Salome* and as Desdemona.

Working as a freelance singer since 2014, Susanne Serfling has expanded her repertoire to include roles such as Agathe in *Der Freischütz*, Blanche in *Dialogues des Carmélites*, Chysothemis in *Elektra*, Leonore in *Fidelio*, Marie/Marietta in *Die tote Stadt*, Ariadne in *Ariadne auf Naxos* and Senta in *Der fliegende Holländer*. Guest appearances have taken her to, amongst others, the Salzburg Festival, the Opera di Roma, the National Theatre in Warsaw and numerous opera houses in Germany, such as the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Komische Oper Berlin, the National Theatre in Mannheim, the State Theatres in Wiesbaden and Cottbus, as well as the theatres in Aachen, Bonn, Koblenz, Magdeburg, Wuppertal, Detmold, Erfurt, Ulm, Oldenburg and Braunschweig. Her collaborations with conductors such as Stefan Soltesz, Mikhail Jurowski, Stefan Blunier, Will Humburg, Gerd Albrecht, Ralf Weickert, Riccardo Muti and directors such as Harry Kupfer, Georg Tabori, Peter Konwitschny, John Dew, Philipp Kochheim, Vera Nemirova, Eva-Maria Höckmayr, Markus Dietze, Christian von Götz and Lothar Krause have shaped her career to date. Her wide-ranging concert repertoire extends from Mozart through Brahms, Mendelssohn, Strauss and Mahler to Kurt Weill.
